Dorene Laverna Petty, 51, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away on April 28, 2017.

Dorene was the youngest of six children born on March 19, 1966, in Wichita, Kansas, to Richard C. Petty and Alice McFall Petty McCauley.

In 1970, the Pettys moved to Aurora, Colorado, where Dorene attended Virginia Court Elementary School. In 1976, the Pettys moved to Cheyenne where her father worked for the Wyoming State Engineer’s office, his final job.

Dorene graduated from Cheyenne East High School in 1984. That fall, she relocated back to Wichita where she enrolled at Friends University. In 1995, she graduated with degrees in chemistry and botany, all while supporting herself as a paramedic. She obtained her degree in paramedicine. She studied perfusion technology as part of her master’s program.

Dorene served her fellow man through Sedgewick County EMS, Travis County EMS and Norman Regional Hospital Emergency Department. While working at Noman Regional, she found her passion and talent in teaching future EMS professionals and shared that through Tulsa Technology Center and Tulsa Community College.

Dorene is survived by her son, Matthew Patrick Petty of Tulsa; brothers, Howard Petty and wife, Kristi, of Johnsburg, IL, and James Petty and wife, Cindy, of Laramie, WY; sisters, Evelyn Aldis and husband, John, of Henderson, CO, Noni Petty Bacon and husband, Andy, of Grand Junction, CO, and Susan Petty now of Altus, OK, where she will live with Dorene’s mother, Alice McCauley and her mother’s husband, Earl.

Dorene was preceded in death by her father, Richard C. Petty, and all four of her grandparents.

Dorene was a lifelong Christian woman of the Roman Catholic tradition.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. at the Schrader Reception Center. Dorene will rest eternally next to her father in the Beth El Cemetery in Cheyenne.
