Obituary for Myrtle A. Oliver

Myrtle Oliver, 75, passed away peacefully at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming on August 20, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer.

Myrtle was born in Tribune, Kansas on March 29, 1943, to Pete and Mary (Hunziker) Schulz. She was the sixth of nine children. She lived in Horace, Kansas, in her family home until her marriage.

On April 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Bill Oliver. They were married for 48 years before Bill's death in 2009. She resided in Yuma County for the better part of 45 years in the communities of Idalia, Wray and Yuma.

Myrtle was a very loving, caring and giving person her entire life. She spent the first years of married life as a homemaker for her husband and six children. She was involved in her children's school activities and was always ready and willing to prepare an item or two for bake sales, etc. and work concessions at the sports events. After Bill's traumatic auto accident in 1979, Myrtle expanded her care-giving by pursuing a career as a CNA, receiving her certification and working many years at the Wray District Hospital. She later continued her CNA career at the Yuma Life Care Center. Myrtle developed many strong friendships during her time at the Wray hospital. After Myrtle was unable to continue with the rigors of her CNA duties, she devoted her time to volunteering. First she was a CNA for Hospice of the Plains, then as a Friend Volunteer for Hospice. She volunteered at the food pantry in Wray and at the senior center in Wray.

Myrtle is survived by her children, Evelyn (Brad) Buhler, Salmon, ID, Bill Oliver, Johnstown, CO, Kristina (Stafford) Gartin, Seneca, MO, Merrie (Gilbert) Blanchard, Cheyenne, WY, and Michael (Calvin Petersen) Oliver, North Platte, NE; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Jackie (Shirley) Schulz, Mary Ellen Hall, and Arlene (Jim) Desbien, as well as a large extended family who cared for her.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Mary Schulz; her daughter, Barbara Hall; her brothers, Pete Schulz, Jimmie Schulz, Dickie Schulz, Eddie Schulz and Tommie Schulz; her great grandson; as well as several brotherd-in-law and sisterd-in-law.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home in Cheyenne. A private family interment will be held at a later date.

Cards/Memorials may be sent to The Oliver Family, c/o Schrader, Aragon, & Jacoby Funeral Home, 2222 Russell Avenue, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
