Nancy Lee Schmid, 81, from Cheyenne, WY passed away on December 29, 2018 in Billings MT.

Nancy was born on May 12, 1937 in Lowe, KS, the eldest of 6 children born to Floyd and Marjorie Goode. She graduated from Cedar Vale High School and William Newton Nursing School in Winfield KS. She met her future husband, Walter Schmid, at Winfield State Training School where she was employed as a nurse and Walter was doing his Internal Medicine Residency. They were married on June 12, 1960 in Winfield KS. Shortly thereafter, Walter enlisted as a Captain in the Army and was assigned to Idar-Oberstein, Germany where their first daughter, Lynne, was born. They returned to Rochester, Minnesota for Walt’s Gastroenterology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic where their son, Brad, and daughter, Laura, were born. In 1967, they moved to Cheyenne WY where he founded Internal Medicine Group and where their last daughter, Gretchen, was born.

Nancy spent her life raising her family, performing volunteer work and working for the Wyoming State Legislature. For the past 35 years, Nancy served as the House of Representative’s Journal Clerk. She was most proud of her role as a mother and that all four of her children went into helping professions—physician, teacher, social worker and veterinarian. She loved sharing pictures and stories of her grandchildren with her many best friends. She was an expert entertainer, loved visiting her siblings in Kansas, an avid reader, a talented artist and creator, and enjoyed traveling the world.

She is survived by her daughter Lynne Peterson and husband Greg from Rochester, MN; Brad Schmid and wife Kristin from Hoenfels, Germany; Laura Schmid-Pizzato and husband Bret of Rock Springs, WY; Gretchen Shuck and husband Mike of Red Lodge, MT. Grandchildren include Madeline and Joey Peterson; Annan Miller and husband Mark, Montgomery and Bennett Schmid; Marianna, Giovanni, and Julianna Pizzato; and MacKenna and Addison Shuck. Great-grandchild Ollie Miller. Sisters include Jeanette Lyke of Arkansas City, KS; Sherry Lancaster and husband Jim of Snellville, GA; Debbie Collingsworth and husband Steve of Oxford, KS. Sisters-in-law Kathy Carlson and husband Gordon of Rolla, MO and Robin Goode of Arkansas City, KS; Brothers-in-law Jim Jorns of Manhattan, KS and Soloman Finley of Winfield, KS.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Walter Schmid; grandson Mason Shuck, sister Billie Finley, brother Mike Goode, and sister-in-law Edie Jorns.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Laramie County Library Foundation.

Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2018 at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.

My deep deep condolences to the Schmid family: May you reflect on the precious memories that you made with your loved one. I would also like to share what helped us when our precious daughter died and later when my precious husband fell asleep in death as well. I appreciated the calls and visits from all over. But, I also recall just sitting down and reading different Scriptures and meditating on them. It was so comforting to read that God cares for us personally... (1Peter 5:6, 7). Yes, He cares, He sees our pain. And, He Jehovah God will in His due time do away with the things that cause us sadness and pain. These are some promises: All sicknesses & death (Isaiah 33:24 & Isaiah 25:8). He is indeed a God of comfort. Oh, wow He promises the hope of seeing our precious loved ones again (John 5:28, 29) and says where (Psalms 37:11). He always keeps His word. I hope that these few Scriptures were of some comfort to you as they were to me.
