Print
David Johnson, Jr., 93, of Parker, Colorado, formerly of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado, and Canton, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in Parker.

Dave was born November 10, 1925 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a son of the late David H. and Agnes E. (Poyntz) Johnson.

Dave served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and was very proud of this time of service to his country. He married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Jones, on July 20, 1946 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He later worked in the printing industry, rising to the position of business executive which he maintained throughout his professional career. During his lifetime he was also a member of the United Methodist Church, serving as a lay speaker, then lay minister. He served as lay minister of the Carpenter United Methodist Church in Wyoming for nine years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, ascending to the level of 32nd Degree.

Dave and Virginia lived their 64 years together in Canton, Ohio, Denver, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dave was devoted to his family and to helping others. He served as a volunteer for the United Medical Center Hospice in Cheyenne for many years and received the Hospice Johnson – Thumack award, appropriately named for Virginia’s previous service and for his dedication.

Dave is survived by his three children, Bonnie J. Lavinder of Aurora, CO, David E. Johnson (Evelyn) of Canton, OH, and Janice J. Ghorashi (Hossein) of Knoxville, TN; brother, Russell A. Johnson (Savaria) of Canton, OH; seven grandchildren, Kristen Lavinder Dubner, David Lavinder, David Johnson, Keri Cathey, Jordan Sangid, Michelle Chandler, and Amanda Ghorashi; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Virginia L. Johnson; and his grandson, Carson R. Sangid of Knoxville.

A memorial service was held in Parker, Colorado. A celebration of life will be held by family and friends at a later date in Martins Ferry, Ohio, where he will be buried in the family cemetery with his beloved wife.

Cremation was under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.Condolences may be offered to the family on-line at www.schradercares.com. Expressions of sympathy in Dave’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
