Obituary

Michael Alan Tolar, only child of Matthew W. Tolar and Camelia J. Tolar, was born in Newton, Kansas, on October 25, 1974, and died in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on October 1, 2019. He was 44.

Michael grew up in Dubois, Wyoming, and graduated from Dubois High School in 1993. Michael was involved in Scouts and became an Eagle Scout, probably adding to his love of eagles. One wonderful memory of his from high school was being a participant in an exchange program to Japan. He was involved in football, basketball, and track and loved them all. He attended Central Wyoming Community College in Riverton before moving to Cheyenne. While in Cheyenne, he attended Laramie County Community College where he was involved in DECCA; he worked hard on their fundraisers, and went to New York City where he worked on a presentation with four others. They won first place. Michael moved to Laramie to attend the University of Wyoming. He was a semester short of finishing his business degree when he moved back to Cheyenne.

Michael was employed several places in Cheyenne; he worked for Kay’s and opened a store for them in Durango, Colorado. He was a salesman for Tyrell-Doyle Chevrolet for many years. He worked for Home Depot managing the paint department, worked as a bouncer for the Crown and Outlaw, and ended working for George Brown at Goldstar Plumbing.

Michael volunteered for Cheyenne Frontier Days each summer. He served on the Rodeo Committee for 20 years.

Michael loved playing darts for a league team, golfing with his friends, watching baseball, football, and other sports. He was an avid fan of the Broncos, the Rockies, and the Wyoming Cowboys. He shared these activities with his friends, always having a good time. He loved playing cards, especially Pinochle and Poker.
Michael loved his family and his friends, and animals. He loved family get togethers for holidays or anytime. He shared the family pets and played with them every chance he got. He was an introverted man who shared his gusto for life. He was a humble man who seldom divulged his accomplishments. He has been referred to as a “gentle giant” who always watched over females and served as a peacekeeper. He offered great hugs to anyone needing them, and was concerned with the welfare of all. He had a dry wit that entertained most he was around. He was an avid reader of many genres, and was exceedingly knowledgeable about many subjects; like his dad, he could carry on a conversation with anyone. People who knew Michael were fortunate.

Surviving Michael are his mother, Cam;Aunt Cynthia Givens from Cheyenne;Uncle John and Aunt Kathy Besancon from Omaha, Nebraska; Aunt Carolyn Nunn from Carson City, Nevada; Uncle Frank and Aunt Lilianne Moore of Keene, Texas; and cousins, Jim, Debbie, Betty, Jeffrey and Sonja, Renee, and Rick from Idaho, Nebraska and Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his father,Matthew and both sets of grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michael’s name toFirst Education Federal Credit Union P. O. Box 20030 Cheyenne, Wyoming 82003-7000

Cam, my heart is breaking. Mike was the sweetest boy ever. Always giving and always polite. Funny. Cute. I remember when he found those striped soccer jerseys he really liked and bought one in every color! He was such a great companion to you and Matt, and all your sisters. And he grew up to be a wonderful, giving man. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this tragic time. Love, Susan

Mike would always pick on me, for my choice of football team lol. He was always there to escort the women to their cars, after their shifts. No female ever walked out alone, when Mike was there. He was a great man and even better friend.. you'll be missed my friend..much love and respect always!!
