Alan Mass

Alan Alfred Mass, 72, of Cheyenne passed away on October 24 at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Alan was born May 14, 1944, in Casper, Wyoming, the son of Robert J.H. and Ann I. Mass. Alan was raised in Casper where he graduated from Natrona County High School in 1962. In September of 1962, he entered the U.S. Navy. Alan was extremely proud of his military service on board the U.S.S. Kankakee, a refueling vessel, as an electrician. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Dominican Republic) and the National Defense Metal. Alan received an honorable discharged from the U.S. Navy in July 1966. After the Navy, Alan attended the University of Wyoming where he graduated with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1970. Alan's first job was with GE on the east coast. Alan was licensed as a Master Electrician in the State of Wyoming in 1975. For over 30 years Alan worked as a contract engineer on power and production plants all over the U.S. When not on a project, Alan resided in Casper. He enjoyed hiking, camping and fishing with his brother and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother, Gary of Cheyenne; nieces, Julie Schutte of Parker, Colorado, and Laura Dover of Durham, Maine; and nephews, Todd Mass of Edmunds, Washington, and Mark Mass of Laramie, Wyoming. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens in Casper at a later date. Donations may be made in Alan's name to the Alzheimer's Disease Center, University of Kansas School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, 2100 West 36th Ave, Suite 110, Kansas City, KS 66160.
