Alice Gertrude Norfleet, was called home by her Lord, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side April 6, 2012. As Alice did during all her life, she shook the world when she was born March 6, 1933 to William Oscar Thompson and Mary Gertrude "Trudy" Fletcher Thompson just days before a major earthquake hit Long Beach, California. As she would call herself, "a Navy Brat", Alice, together with her parents and two younger brothers, Billy and Jimmy, visited all fifty states. Since she was not long in anyone place, she learned how to make friends easy which gave her, her friendly and outgoing personality. While living in Portsmouth, VA, she lost her brother Billy to a drowning accident when he was 15 years old. It was also in Portsmouth that she met a handsome young man, Hubert S Norfleet at a barn dance. Because he was so smitten, he followed her to Bayonne NJ where they were married, November 17, 1951. Eventually they moved out west and together they welcomed two daughters, Pam and Sheri. Along with her husband Hubert, they owned Norfleet Sheet Metal until their retirement in 2002. Because of her love for the veterans she became an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over fifty years. Alice served not only locally, but also as Department President for the State of Wyoming, National Executive Committee Woman and on the National VA & R Committee. She is also a member of Oakleaf #6 and Mizpah #36 OES. Alice is survived by her daughters Pam Freeman (Michael), Sheri Best (Jim), brother James Herrin, grandchildren, Jeff Wilson, Danny Wilson, Mat Braunschweig (Crystal), Amy Dillon (Dave), Jenifer Benzel (Jason), Nathan Freeman (Haley), Stephen Best and her great grand children who she was affectingly known as GGma, Logan, Kobe, Jaren, Hailey, Kayla, Alicen, Kaleb, Izaac, Michael, Skyler, Kameron and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband Hubert, parents, brother and son in law, Mike Acosta. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as a wonderful caring, elegant and gracious lady whose bright and special smile lightened up all around her. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Beth El Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Pall bearers will be Michael Freeman, Jim Best, Jeff Wilson, Danny Wilson, Mat Braunschweig, David Dillon and Jason Bensel. Honorary Pall bearers are Jim Herrin and her great grandsons. Donations can be made to the American Legion National Child Welfare Foundation, Cheyenne Animal Shelter or Davis Hospice in her name.
