Aloysius "Al" Edward Higgins went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 24, 2011. Al was a long time resident of Cheyenne and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in 1980. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1966. He was a veteran of WWII, Korean, and Vietnam wars. He served throughout the world in the Near East, Northeast, and Pacific areas. After retirement he became a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, (NARFE). He served as president for 4 years until May 1995. Al was born at the family home in Nowata, OK, on March 2, 1929 to Denis Michel and Mamie Mae Morris Higgins. He left Oklahoma to join the Air Force. In 1949 while at Cheyenne, he met the love of his life, Martha A. Hudman. She became his eternal companion on January 13, 1952 in Rock Springs, WY. Together they enjoyed traveling throughout the world and gave many hours of compassionate and generous service to those around them and the community. Al was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held several responsible callings and along with his wife served as ordinance worker in the Denver Temple for seven years. Survivors include his wife Martha A. Higgins of Cheyenne; nieces, Callie Conkey of Blue Jay, CA, Suzanne Duke of Lewiston, ID and Linda Rasmussen of Hyde Park, UT; nephews, Patrick Flowers of Vancouver, WA and Michael Flowers of Tustin, CA He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William (Bill), Patrick, Dennis, and Robert Higgins; two sisters, Kathleen Flowers and Margarite Covey; and a sister-in-law, Helen H. Hudman. Those who wish may contribute to Davis Hospice Center, 6000 Sycamore, Cheyenne, WY 82009. Viewing will be 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with Funeral Services following at 11:00 a.m. both at the LDS Stake Center, 309 Western Hills Blvd. with Bishop George Parks conducting and President Craig Whitehead presiding. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
