Archie J. Martinez, Sr, age 73, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, earned his wings this Memorial Day, on Monday, May 27th, 2024, peacefully in the comfort of his home. Archie was born on February 17th, 1951, to Otoniel and Pacomia Rose Martinez in Rocks Springs, Wyoming.
At age 18, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War earning the Bronze Service Star, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Galantry, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. Archie also traveled to Washington DC with a fellow veteran to visit the Vietnam memorial monument Wall of Faces to retrieve his lieutenants name, they found his name, it was Joseph Byron Poe who died tragically 09/20/1971 in Long Khanh Provence while they were serving together.
After serving in the Army, he went on to earn a certificate for Automotive Body Repair from LCCC in July 1986. He worked ten years at Arch Mineral Coal Mines in Hanna Wyoming. A few years later moving to Cheyenne where he would live out the rest of his days.
On July 3rd, 1973, Archie married Virginia Roy and they would've been celebrating their 51st anniversary this July. Their children are Michael, Archie Jr, Johanna, and Robert "Karlos". He is survived by his loving wife, children, and his grandchildren whom he cherished and loved very deeply. Isaiah, Echo, Kobie, McKenna, Jaiden, Devon, Ashton, and Camryn.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and he will be missed by so many.
Archie was proceeded by Herbert Martinez, Tommy Martinez, Jimmy Martinez Sr, and Alice Sisneros. He is survived by Benny Martinez Sr (Sylvia), Velma Carrillo (Nick), Mae Martinez (Raymond), Ebby Jackson (Randy), and Eleanor Arnbrister (Tom). And he is also surrounded by many cousins, nieces, and nephews who he also loved so much.
Archie was known for his commitment to his family, friends, faith, patriotism, and being a die hard Denver Broncos fan. Archie will always be remembered for how kind and loving he truly was to everyone.
Services will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church 603 House Avenue, Cheyenne, Wy 82007 on Monday, June 10th, 2024 at 11:00am to reminisce and honor the memory of a loving husband, father, grandfather and soon to be great grandfather. Wyoming Patriot Guard will escort services from the church to Cheyenne National Cemetery for Graveside Service where Military Honors will be held.
