Arleen M. Zumbrun, 88, long-time Cheyenne resident, passed away October 18, 2011, at Davis Hospice Center. She was born September 10, 1923, to the late John and Leona Tordoff on the family farm near Nebraska City, NE. She and her family lived in Longmont, CO for many years until her family moved to Cheyenne in the 1940's. Arleen and her twin sister, Kathleen, attended and graduated from St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, CO. Arleen was employed at the Veteran's Administration Hospital and Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne. She spent the majority of her nursing career at DePaul Hospital serving as a house supervisor for many years. She received an award for outstanding service from the Wyoming Nurses Association shortly after her retirement. She married Woodrow K. Zumbrun on September 25, 1948, in Cheyenne, and he preceded her in death. Arleen had a love of music. She played cello in the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra. She served as organist at both Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne. She also played the organ at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She played for numerous weddings, funerals, and special occasions in addition to Sunday Mass services. Arleen was an ardent supporter of St. Mary's School. She volunteered her services as a photographer and reporter for the school and provided numerous articles for the local newspapers. She was active as a "band booster" in the 1960's and helped with numerous school projects. She also volunteered as a school nurse. She loved her family and spent many hours with them enjoying life. She is survived by daughters, Monica, Vicki, and Jean; sons, Joe, Tom and Dave; grandchildren, Brian, Jamie, Natalie, Joe, Jason, Casey, Tom, Nicole, Daniel, and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren, Braxton, Aydin, Stephen, Bridget, and Brooke. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Thomas Cronkleton, Jr. as celebrant. An interment service will follow at Olivet Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Arleen's memory may be made to the Davis Hospice Center, 6000 Sycamore, Cheyenne, WY 82009.
