Barbara E. Barkee, 90, of Cheyenne passed away February 2, 2018 in Cheyenne surrounded by her family. She was born January 24, 1928 in Cheyenne to Fred and Alice (Lebsack) Schaffer. She married James Barkee on April 27, 1949 in The Dalles, OR. She retired as a registered nurse working as an OB/GYN nurse and later in physicians' offices. She was an 85-year member of First Congregational Church, Christian Womens Club, Society of Service, Mizpah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Retired Nurses Association, Moose Lodge, Beta Sigma Phi, and the YMCA. Barbara was born and raised in Cheyenne. She graduated from Cheyenne High in 1945 and graduated from Cadet Nurses Training in Oregon. She also attended Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande, OR. She returned to Cheyenne in 1953 to work at Memorial Hospital. She spent her life caring for others as a nurse, wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara could always be seen wearing her favorite color- purple. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law David and Gayle Barkee of Cheyenne; daughter and son-in-law, Cherie Major and Kim Sherwood of Moab, UT; grandchildren, Jason Barkee and his wife Beth, of Missoula MT, Piper Major of Los Angeles, CA, Brandie Barkee-Gay and her husband, John Gay of Cheyenne, Daric Barkee and his wife, Tricia, of Salem, OH; great-grandchildren, Cadence and Lyric Gay, and Emily and Susan Barkee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Chad Barkee and brother James Schaffer. Contributions may be made to Davis Hospice Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church. A private interment of her urn will be at Mountain View Memorial Park. Services are under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
