Barbara Odgen

July 19, 1933 — March 3, 2011

Barbara Deane Ogden, 77, of Cheyenne died March 3, 2011, in Cheyenne. She was born July 19, 1933, in Casper to Beryl and Kathryn (Siepmann) Bemis. She married Jon S. Ogden on Sept. 24, 1960. She was a loving wife and companion to Jon, a loving mother and grandmother and a true friend to anyone she encountered. She had a way of making everyone she knew feel like they were special and she brightened the lives of so many. She always said that her family was "the wind beneath my wings." She graduated from Natrona County High School, class of 1951 and Casper College, and was an executive secretary for Pan American Petroleum. While her boys were growing up she was an active room mother at the elementary school and den mother for Cub Scout packs. She was a neighborhood babysitter for many families. She loved traveling. It didn't matter where, but she always found ways to enjoy her trips, including when she chaperoned her boys' band trips. She was always busy with projects, whether it was making photo albums for her many family members, making scrapbooks or her personalized cards on every special occasion. She was an avid antique collector and she always had a dream of opening her own children's museum someday with all of the toys she had collected. She and Jon loved to take their vintage Airstream camper and meet their kids to camp or travel. When you entered her home you could always expect a meal that was large enough for an army. It didn't matter if you were there for an hour or a week, she would make sure that you were well fed before you left. When you were with her, you always felt like you were home. There was never a dull moment at Barb and Jon's house. Barb was a wonderful, loving sister and friend to her six siblings. After the death of their mother, she also became their second mother. As a mother, she was constantly making sure that each of her sons knew that she loved them all equally and unconditionally. As a grandmother, she was always up for anything, whether it was singing a song with the player piano, playing "Oregon Trail" with kids of all ages, or any board game that you could bring to her. She attended every show, concert, ceremony, graduation, and event that she possibly could for each of her grandchildren, nieces or nephews. She dedicated her life to making those in it happy. She had a laugh that made everyone around her laugh along with her. Barb wasn't afraid to laugh at herself. She is survived by her husband, Jon S. Ogden of Cheyenne; sons, Timothy Ogden of Denver, Paul (Lynn) Ogden of Centennial, Colo., Daniel (Anita) Ogden of Idaho Falls, Idaho; her grandchildren, Annie, Jeffry, Jake, Hailey, Mikayla, and Seth; and her siblings, Loren "Buz" (Joyce) Bemis of Arizona, Sharon (Gene) Dobbins of Casper, Lois (Walt) Wragge of Sheridan, Barry (Peg) Bemis of Colorado, Nancy (Dick) Lozano of Torrington and Mike (Laura) Bemis of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is now and will be forever missed. Visitation will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, with a service to follow at 4 p.m. at Schrader Funeral Home. Contributions can be made the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, or the Casper College Alumni Association designate for the Beryl A. Bemis and Kathryn Siepmann Bemis Fund, 125 College Drive, 82601.
