Barbara Van Alyne

Barbara Rudolphia ‘Dolfe' Brown Van Alyne died on January 19, 2018, at Davis Hospice Center She was. born June 28, 1932, in Cheyenne to Tandy Parks Brown and Grace Cleo Parker Brown, Dolfe was the 14th of 17 children. She was named for Rudolphia Holliday, who encouraged the construction of Holliday Park. Dolfe was educated in Cheyenne schools and graduated Cheyenne High School in 1950, where she played French Horn in the orchestra and was active in Tomahawks. She attended Colorado Normal College, now the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley CO. She married Robert A. Van Alyne Sr, on November 24, 1951, at the First Presbyterian Church. Dolfe was mostly a ‘stay at home' Mom who worked in various jobs to help support the family. She was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA (serving on local, state, and national boards), worked as an Election Judge and in various volunteer positions at the First Presbyterian Church. She was given the Buckaroo Award by the Cheyenne District of the Boy Scouts. She was an avid Wyoming Cowgirls basketball fan. From 1982 to 1988, Dolfe served as an Army Lady of Arlington at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA, attending soldiers' funerals on behalf of the Army Chief of Staff. She laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns on October 19, 1985. Dolfe is survived by her husband, Bob; children Barbara Nash (Walter), Roger (Susan) and Rodney (Catherine); daughter in law Janette, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Jr, her parents, and 14 of her brothers and sisters. Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.
