Bernard "Bernie" E. Hackler, 68, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away late Sunday evening, March 1, 2015, at the Davis Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. Bernie was born December 1, 1946, in North Platte, Nebraska, a son of the late Ernest and Fern (Johnson) Hackler. Following high school graduation, Bernie enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably for 20 years. After his retirement, he worked as a civil contractor with the Navy as a ship computer programmer. He also worked as a locomotive engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for 18 years, retiring in May of 2012. In 2005, he married Judy Hruby and they enjoyed antiquing, working in the yard and his garden, planting trees, wood working and spending time with each other. He will be remembered as someone who never complained and was always happy and loved life. Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Cheyenne; his brother, Joe Hackler and wife, Sue, of Cheyenne; two sisters, Louise Broeder and Dorothy VanCleave, both of North Platte, NE; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best friend, Rowdie He is preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father August Koeune as celebrant.
