Carolyn Jean Taylor

June 14, 1944 — January 26, 2024

Cheyenne

Carolyn Jean Taylor, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne with her children by her side. She was born on June 14, 1944, in Cheyenne to Charles William "Bill" Hedges Jr. and Shirley Jean Hedges, joining sister Sharon Ann. Apart from several years the family spent in Colorado when she was young, Carolyn made Cheyenne her home.

Carolyn's life was filled with dedication and love for her family. After graduating from Cheyenne East High School in 1962, she began her career as an office and dental assistant with Dr. John Esmay. She worked diligently alongside him for several years before becoming a devoted homemaker for over four decades. She married Kermit "Cookie" Taylor in 1968 and together they raised their three children, Michael, Robin, and Todd.

Known for her kind and friendly nature, Carolyn had a way of brightening any room she entered with her warm smile. She greeted everyone she met with genuine warmth. Her compassionate spirit was evident in everything she did, whether it was lending a listening ear or offering a comforting word of advice.

One of Carolyn's biggest passions in life was reading. She had an insatiable appetite for books and would devour them one after another. Through literature, she embarked on countless adventures, developing an immense knowledge and understanding of the world around her. Her love for storytelling inspired those around her to appreciate the power of words.

In addition to reading, Carolyn also possessed great artistic talent. She enjoyed spending time indulging in craft projects and creating beautiful landscape paintings. Her artistic endeavors allowed her to express herself creatively and brought joy to her life. Carolyn's flower garden was another source of happiness for her, though her health prevented her from tending it as she had done in the past.

Carrying on Carolyn's legacy are her daughter Robin Lynn Dempsey and husband Marc Dempsey, son Michael (Big Mike) Taylor, her granddaughter Erin Gilmartin and husband Jeremy Gilmartin, as well as great-grandson Taylor Gilmartin. They will forever cherish the guidance and love she provided, as well as the memories they shared with Carolyn. Also surviving are Carolyn's sister Sharon Horton and brother-in-law Larry Horton, who have been sources of support and love throughout her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kermit "Cookie" Taylor, and son Todd Taylor, as well as her parents.

Carolyn Jean Taylor will be deeply missed by her surviving family and friends. Her warm personality and loving nature touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. It has been a true blessing having her in our lives. May Carolyn's vibrant spirit continue to shine brightly in our hearts forevermore.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating in Carolyn's name to Davis Hospice Center, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, or to a charity of your choosing.
