Charles F. Vanover Jr., fondly known as "Chuck," passed away on January 31, 2025, at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on December 23, 1934, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Chuck's journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, community, and profession.
After obtaining a Bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado, Chuck devoted his career to education, working for the State of Wyoming as well as School District #1 in Cheyenne and School District #2 in Pine Bluff. His commitment to fostering the minds of young people reflected his passion for teaching and contribution to the betterment of society.
Beyond the classroom, Chuck was deeply involved in the community and cherished his role as a member of North Cheyenne Baptist Church. He proudly served as the Music Director for three decades, harmonizing the musical talents of his congregation with his love for worship and community service.
Chuck found joy in many pursuits outside of work. He greatly valued time spent with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for coaching baseball allowed him to inspire countless young athletes. Additionally, he embraced the great outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and even snowmobiling.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Shirley Vanover; son Todd and his wife Donna; and grandchildren Randi, Jon, and Kristen. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Brady Hamm, Gabriella, Andre, and Izayah, who will carry forward his legacy of love and guidance.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Charles F. Vanover Sr. and Elva Vanover; his brother RJ Vanover and sister-in-law Dorthy Vanover; and his son Mark Vanover. The memories of Chuck's kindness, laughter, and wisdom will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His impressive legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
