Charles Zumo

December 3, 1932 — June 22, 2018

Charles V. Zumo, 85, of Cheyenne passed away June 22, 2018 at Davis Hospice Center. He was born December 3, 1932 in Cheyenne to John and Virginia Zumo. He is a member of Saints, Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church and served the church on the local, metropolis and national levels. He was a member of Philoptochos Society. After graduating from Central High School, he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad, until he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955, earning the Expert Marksmanship Medal. He graduated from the University of Wyoming earning a Bachelors and Masters Degrees in education. He taught and coached at Pioneer Park School for fifteen years and industrial arts at Carey Jr. High School for sixteen years. Professionally, he belonged and worked on several committees of the Cheyenne Teacher's Education association, was a delegate to several Wyoming Education Association and National Education Association conventions. He was also elected president of Phi Delta Kappa, an education honorary. He was a life member of the UW Alumni Association and National Education Association. For over twenty years, he was a football statistician for Central High School, and a judge for local, district and state track meets. He also coached and volunteered with Special Olympics on the local and state levels. His hobbies included attending car shows and displaying his 1955 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner, which he owned since 1956. He belonged to the National Hot Rod association and Good Guys Rod and Custom Association. Watching Wyoming athletics and being a member of the Cowboy Joe Club were important to him. He kept occupied by creating things out of stained glass. He met his wife, Billie, on the steps of the University of Wyoming Student Union and they were married on August 21, 1959 in Fort Collins, CO. He is survived by his wife, Billie; son, Dr. Thomas (Ann) Zumo and grandsons, Christopher and Jacob Zumo of Cheyenne; brothers, Pasquale (Marlene) Zumo of Cheyenne and Jasper Zumo of California; and sister, Connie Waszak of Cheyenne. Trisagion Services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Constantine and Helen Orthodox church with interment in Beth El Cemetery.
