Clay Unger

Clay Unger, 83, of Aurora, CO (formerly Cheyenne) passed away peacefully on March 7 at New Dawn Memory Care in Aurora. The eldest of three sons, he was born May 9, 1928, in Wheatland, WY, to Louis "Lou" Unger and Bertha Ann Brunia. After working as a ranch hand for Swan Land and Cattle Co in WY, Clay enlisted in the Air Force and served in World War II with the Army of Occupation. He was later recalled to the Korean War, and served stateside so he could be near his new family. He started a career with Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph as a lineman, and retired from Quest after 30 years of service. He also spent much of his life, especially retirement years, remodeling and building homes. As a young man, he developed his carpentry skills through training from a distinguished Wheatland architect, a line of work that suited him well. He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge #1, A.F & A.M. in Cheyenne, as a Master Mason. Clay is survived by one son, Carl Unger of Greeley, CO; two daughters, Ann Unger Bowen of Cheyenne, and Theresa Unger Kropinak of Centennial, CO; and the mother of their children, Nadine Unger of Cheyenne; six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lou and Bertha Unger; second son, Jack Unger of Astoria, OR; two brothers, Ellis "Doc" Unger of Hanna, WY, and infant brother, George Unger of Wheatland. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 18 at Schrader Funeral Home with Pastor Raul Cruz officiating. Interment of his remains will be in Dows, IA later in June, next to other family members. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the University of Wyoming Foundation, with benefits to the School of Nursing, 1200 East Ivinson, Laramie, WY 82070.
