Colonel Robert Eugene Hamilton, 82, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away quietly on October 8, 2013, surrounded by family. He was born in Bismarck, Missouri, on August 31, 193,1 to John William Henry and Della (Nall) Hamilton. On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Sherri Samuels in Laramie, Wyoming. He served 37 years in the United States Army, and he was the Chief Operations and Training Officer for the State of Wyoming, retiring as a highly decorated officer. He loved fishing, bowling, golfing, and enjoyed watching all of the Colorado sports teams. His favorite past time was to watch the Denver Broncos on Sundays with his family and his trusty sidekick and grandson, Jay. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri of Cheyenne; seven daughters, Renee Ainsworth of Cheyenne, Tracie (David) Soller of Rock Springs, WY, Jeanell (Eddie) Allen of Rapid City, SD, Lynn Hamilton of Cheyenne, Misty (Michael) Anderson of Cheyenne, Kristy (Craig) Burdine of Cheyenne, and Audra (Matthew) O'Connor of Cheyenne; one son, David (Catherine) Hamilton of Cheyenne; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. He was a good man who welcomed anyone and treated everyone as family. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fisher House charity in Colonel Hamilton's honor. Cremation has taken place under the care of Schrader Funeral Home and private family services will be held. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home, Cheyenne.
