Daphne Ivey

Daphne Lee Ivey, 97, of Cheyenne, died April 6th at Davis Hospice Center. She was born into a Union Pacific founders' family in Omaha, Nebraska on September 22, 1920. Losing her father at the age of four, Daphne and her mother moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming where she graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1938. In 1941 Daphne married Raymond Ivey at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Cheyenne. Moving to Sterling, Colorado, her first daughter was born in 1943. Her husband's business then took them to Colorado Springs, Colorado, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Amarillo, Texas. Moving back to Cheyenne in 1952, Daphne gave birth to twins, the first set of twins ever to be born in DePaul Hospital. Another move took the family to Laurel, Montana, and then permanently back to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1955. Daphne was an active member of X-JWC for 40 years as treasurer and a variety of other positions, a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, serving on the altar guild, and the assistant director in the 1980's - 1990's for the Cheyenne Music Teachers' Piano Auditions. Her passions included swimming at LCCC for over 20 years, playing the organ, reading, gardening, sewing, the nurturing of all animals, and designing the interiors for doll houses. Daphne was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Lee McDuffie; her mother, Ione McDuffie; her grandmother, Amanda Jensen; her aunt, Vera Ritter; and her husband, Ray Ivey. She is survived by her daughter, Diedre Hunter(Stephen); her daughter, Christine Moore (Jim); her son, Chris Ivey of Cheyenne; grandsons, Timothy Sylte of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dr. Matthew Sylte of Ames, Iowa; and great grandsons, Henrik and Eric Sylte of Ames, Iowa. Cremation has taken place at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. No services are being planned at this time.
