Darrel W. McMullen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on February 26, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 76.
Born on November 19, 1948, in Alliance, Nebraska, Darrel's life was defined by his unwavering spirit and deep commitment to his family. Darrel graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1967, where he was fondly remembered by his teachers after he graduated.
Darrel had a tireless work ethic and dedication. His career path led him from working as a ranch hand with Hall Cattle Company to a fulfilling role as an engineer with Union Pacific Railroad.
Throughout his life, Darrel was known for his complex personality—a bit gruff on the outside, but gentle and caring with a heart of gold on the inside. He was a natural prankster, always ready to share a laugh or participate in a good joke. His love for sports was evident in his active participation in hunting, fishing, training bird dogs, softball, as well as his involvement in coaching Little League baseball and serving as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America.
Above all, Darrel cherished spending time with his family & friends. Loyal and dependable, he was a man of his word, consistently present for those he held dear.
Darrel is survived by his loving wife, Zelma McMullen; his ONLY daughter, Lacy McMullen of Rock Springs, Wyoming along with her significant other Kerry Krompel and their kids Dalton and Zoey Marincic; His sons, Darrel Mark McMullen of Cheyenne, Wyoming, daughter-in-law Kim McMullen and their kids Torie & Brady McMullen. Wes McMullen of Laramie, Wyoming, daughter-in-law Shanna McMullen and their kids Dylan & Tatum McMullen and Craig McMullen of Cheyenne, Wyoming; He is also survived by his sister, Nola McMullen of North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen McMullen; his father, Wesley "Bud" McMullen; his brother, Martin McMullen; and his parents-in-law, Thelma and Morris Buck Mount.
Darrel W. McMullen's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
