Cheyenne

David Albert Legerski, known affectionately as Dave, passed away on April 30, 2024, in Cheyenne, WY, after a valiant battle with aggressive lung cancer. He was born on August 26, 1941, in Sheridan, WY, to his loving parents Helen and Joe Legerski.

Dave led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and countless joyful experiences. His career spanned 35 years, starting at Cheyenne Light Fuel and Power and culminating in his retirement from Xcel Energy in 2001. Beyond his professional endeavors, Dave's true joys lay in spending time with his cherished family. He had a special talent for cooking, inherited from his mother, and delighted in preparing meals for his loved ones during holidays, creating lasting memories around the dining table.

A man of immense kindness and generosity, Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand without hesitation. His laughter was infectious and could brighten even the darkest of days—filling any room with warmth and joy. Dave's interests were as diverse as they were captivating. From being hailed as the "Sauerkraut King" for his homemade delicacies to brewing beer and making wine from grapes grown in his backyard, he approached every hobby with unwavering passion.

In addition to culinary pursuits, Dave found joy in building and flying RC airplanes as a longstanding member of the Cheyenne Hillhoppers Flying club. An adept mechanic and versatile craftsman, he could fix anything that came his way—a true Jack of all trades. Music also played a significant role in Dave's life; he played the accordion and dabbled in guitar playing while reveling in the lively tunes of Polka music.

Amongst his proudest accomplishments was constructing a house mostly by himself and serving as a volunteer firefighter while residing outside city limits—a testament to his dedication to helping others. However varied his interests were, Dave always found solace in nature through camping trips, fishing excursions, and hikes in the Big Horns—a source of immense happiness for him.

Dave is survived by children Jeff Legerski and Anne Legerski; siblings Charles Legerski, Richard Legerski, Don Legerski, and two-sister in-laws Karen Legerski and Suzanne Dickerson. In their time of loss, may they find comfort in the beautiful memories shared with Dave throughout the years.

He is now reunited with his beloved wife Mary Ann Legerski, parents Helen and Joe Legerski, sister Michelle Schleyer, brothers Greg and Eugene Legerski, and two-sister in-laws Bonnie Legerski and Shirley Legerski.—all watching over their cherished family from above.

Services to celebrate Dave's life will be held at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home on May 13 for a Prayer Service followed by Funeral Services at St. Mary's Cathedral on May 14 before a gathering at Hartmann Hall. Though Dave has departed from this world, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him—a beacon of light shining brightly through cherished memories woven together by love and laughter.
