David Gorman

Mr. David F. Gorman, 69, of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, May 30, 2011. Dave was born on November 9, 1941, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, a son of Franklin B. and Deloris G. (Thill) Gorman. In 1965, Dave began his coaching and teaching career in Burns, Wyoming. It was there he had great success on and off the court for eight years. His family moved to Minnesota for a short while, but it didn't take long for Dave to come home to Wyoming. In 1976, he moved to Pine Bluffs to teach and coach. Here he brought and shared his greatest gifts - his endless time and amazing talent for bringing out the very best in kids. Through his tutelage and encouragement, hundreds of student athletes found their passion in football, basketball and track, a passion they may not have even known they possessed. And thanks to Dave's coaching and influence, those kids not only became the best athletes they could be, they became the best people they could be because Dave believed in them. Dave's universe consisted of three things- family, coaching and teaching. Sometimes those universes overlapped when he was able to coach his own kids, experiences he treasured above all. It was when Dave was coaching, teaching or spending time with his family that he was happiest. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, David L. Gorman, Angela A. Gorman, Christina E. Gorman, Jennifer N. Gorman, Christopher JW Gorman and Stephanie K. Gorman. He is also survived by 12 brothers and sisters, Sharon (Tom) Wagner of Armour, SD, Charles (Cheri) Gorman of Yankton, SD, Linda (William) Specht of Wellston, OH, Dan Gorman of Maplewood, MN, Mary (Cliff) Jorgenson of Pierre, SD, Mike (Cynthia) Gorman of Yankton, SD, Margaret (Daniel) Scherslicht of Berryington, KS, Timothy (Katrina) Gorman of St. Paul, MN, Lisa Seldon of Everett, WA, Kimberly Gorman of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, Franklin; his mother, Deloris; and a brother Richard Gorman of Tyndall, SD. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home with a Vigil for the Deceased to follow on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. Funeral services and interment will be private. David's fellow student athletes and colleagues will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 4th at 2:00 p.m. at the Pine Bluffs School Gymnasium.
