David Huntley

May 24, 1958 — July 11, 2016

David Alan Huntley went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 11, 2016 after a long illness at the Davis Hospice Center, Cheyenne. David was the first blessing to arrive for his parents, Larry and Sharon Huntley, on May 24, 1958 in Storm Lake, IA. The family moved to Salinas, CA for a short time but David was often able to return to his grandparent's farm where he loved to spend the summers. The family returned to Iowa when David was in the fifth grade where he became active in basketball, football and baseball. The love of sports would continue through high school and was shown through him receiving the football High School All American honor during his Senior year at Alta High School. He was always looking out for others and told his Mother that he would be a cop "just like my dad". He succeeded at this lifelong dream and graduated from Western Iowa Technical Community College, Sioux City, IA with an Associates in Police Science. His love and passion for law enforcement includes: Buena Vista County Sheriff's Department, Chief for the Correctionville Police Department, Onawa Police Department, and Chief for the Sioux Rapids Police Department. His parents purchased the Parkway Drive In, where he met the love of his life Julie Ann (Sinns) and was married on August 14, 1982, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alta, IA and were blessed with three children. David's faith grew strong from hearing the Lord's words, teachings and fellowship with his church family at Our Savior Lutheran Church. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Julie, daughter Amanda (Brian) Seslar, daughter Katherine (Christopher) Mendoza, and son Alan (Ashlynn) Huntley; six grandchildren; parents Larry and Sharon Huntley, Sloan, IA; brother Mark (Karlene) Huntley, Sergeant Bluff, IA; sister in laws Joelle (Larry) Allen, North Liberty, IA and Janet Harms, Wall Lake, IA. He is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends. Services will be Wednesday 3:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with committal to follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
