David Allen Monroe, 72, of Cheyenne, died May 4, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. He was born April 28, 1942, in Alton, Illinois. He was raised in Denver and graduated from Westminster High School in 1960. He resided in Cheyenne for 37 years. He served honorably in the armed services. His 34 year career included time in the Air Force, Navy and Wyoming Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He retired after 45 years in the telecommunications field. During his career, he proudly served as a Union representative for AFL-CIO. He worked all over the Western region. He is survived by his wife, Neleta, of 35 years; daughter, Paula Henry (Mike) of Denver; two sons, Mike Clark (Jimi) and BJ Clark (Angie), both of Gillette; three brothers, Bill Monroe (Annette) of Plato, MO, Larry Monroe (Kayoko) of Mustang, OK, and Jonathon Gutierrez of San Francisco; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one of the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, George Monroe; his mother, Margaret Gutierrez; brother, Paul Monroe; and son, Dean Monroe David attended the University of Denver for four years in pursuit of an advanced degree in photography and he retired as a combat photographer in the Air National Guard. He enjoyed traveling, camping and being with family and friends. He enjoyed life to its fullest. A memory service will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schrader Chapel with Tom Dimick officiating. A reception will follow at the Schrader Reception Center.
