Donald Smith

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Schrader Chapel, interment services were at Carpenter Cemetery. Donald F. Smith passed away on May 1, 2010 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. He was born March 29, 1921 in Kimball, Nebraska to Ephram and Minnie Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Ileen Grace Young on September 6, 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas. His family was very important to him. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all. He was a previous resident of Carpenter from 1948 until 2008 where he farmed until he retired. He was a member of the Hereford Community Church. He also belonged to the following organizations, Carpenter School Board for 9 years, Carpenter Methodist Church Board, Carpenter Christian Church and Centennial Antique Tractor and Engine Club. He is survived by his sons; Donald L. (Vicky) Smith of Greeley, CO, Robert D. (Cindy) Smith of Surprise, AZ, Gary W. (Norma) Smith of Hereford, CO and a daughter, Lonna J. (Jim) Loyd of Hereford, CO. He is also survived by two sisters, Ina Settlemier of Riverton, WY and Opal Montgomery of Chadron, NE. He is survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded by his wife, Ileen Grace Smith and one granddaughter. He is also preceded by five sisters and 2 brothers. Pallbearers were all of his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were all of his great- grandchildren and his one great-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hereford Community Church or to the Davis Hospice Center.
