Donna Lee Jackson, 72, of rural Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010, at her son’s home in Briggsdale, Colorado, from complications relating to breast and bone cancer. Donna was born December 31, 1937, in Edgerton, Wyoming, a daughter of the late Norah and George Bridger. She graduated from Natrona County High School, Class of 1955, and later that summer she married Vance D. Jackson at First Southern Baptist Church in Casper. Vance and Donna enjoyed working with the youth in various churches in the Casper area, and they were very involved in teaching people about Christ. After raising their son, Donna returned to school to pursue a career in education. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in education and in 1975, she earned her master’s degree in special education. Then in August of 1977, she earned her doctorate in special education from the University of Wyoming. Her teaching career would last over 16 years from 1972 thru 1988 in various schools throughout Wyoming. She was known best as a teacher who was passionate about her student’s special needs and gifts. In 1989 after retiring from teaching, Vance and Donna moved to Colorado to be closer to their grandchildren, Kristin and Nathan. In August 1995, she was devastated by the loss of her husband of 39 years to cancer; however, this set back would only serve as a catalyst for the passion that was within. Donna would begin a new adventure as a short term missionary to Mexico, Russia, Turkey, as well as travel to Israel, Germany and numerous other destinations. Her life and passions were guided by her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She will best be remembered as a woman of prayer and faith. Donna is survived by her son, Terry (Dean) Jackson and wife, Laurie, of Briggsdale, CO; two grandchildren, Nathan and Kristin; one great-grandchild, Andrea; and two sisters, Mary Lou Colman and Judy Cummings. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Vance D. Jackson. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010, from 9-11 a.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Schrader Chapel.
