Doris Sorensen

Mrs. Doris Marie (Johnson) Sorensen, 88, of Albin, Wyoming, passed away at her residence in Cheyenne on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Doris was born December 17, 1926, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, daughter of the late Byron E. and Nellie (Miner) Johnson. Doris lived in Pawnee City until she moved to Albin with her family on December 7, 1941. She graduated from Albin High School in 1944 and worked as a typist in the War Department. She later worked as a postal clerk in the Albin Post Office for 20 years, and also drove school bus for 20 years. She also enjoyed serving as a government weather reporter for 40 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #77, and the Albin Baptist Church. Doris is survived by her children, Jack Sorensen (Naida) of Wheatland, Ron Sorensen (Judy) of Greybull, Mike Sorensen (Pam, fiancée) of Albin, Sherree Allen (Steve) of Wheatland, and Kathy Freeburg (Ray) of Pine Bluffs; sister, Carol Sorensen of Albin; brother, Bill Johnson of Burns; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Sorensen, whom she married in October 1946; her parents; a brother; a sister; and two granddaughters. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. A memory service will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the Albin School Gymnasium with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. An interment service will follow at the Albin Cemetery. Donations in Doris' memory may be made to purchase a monument recognizing the heroes of Iwo Jima to be displayed in the Albin Memorial Park.
