Dorothy Rundquist

July 7, 1920 — April 26, 2012

Dorothy Nixon Rundquist of Cheyenne died on April 26, 2012 at Life Care Center of Cheyenne. She was born July 7, 1920 to Lawrence and Minnie Hendrickson Nixon in Boise, Idaho. She was raised on a ranch near the Snake River and attended a one room school until high school, graduating from Cambridge High School. Upon graduation from the University of Idaho (Pi Beta Phi), she moved to Seattle where she worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Remington Rand. Her job sent her to New York City for training on a predecessor to the modern computer. In 1946 at dinner party, Dorothy was introduced by her cousin to her future husband, Stanley Rundquist. They were married on March 1, 1947 in Seattle and had a skiing honeymoon at Mount Hood in Oregon. By 1957 Dorothy had three children. Stan was employed by the Boeing Company in the Aerospace Division. Missile installations had them relocated to Air Force bases across the country. Their household moves included dogs, cats, rock collections, and orange tree, and horses. In 1982 Dorothy and Stan retired to a small farm in Warrensburg, Missouri. From there they continued their love of travel to all fifty states and all seven continents. Dorothy enjoyed her card group, garden club and gardening, extension club, church groups, French lessons, and PEO. She was an avid horsewoman, swimmer, and skier. She loved laughing with her family, and family reunions were very special to her. In 2001 Dorothy and Stan moved to Cheyenne to be closer to family. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Stanley, and children, Anita Keen (Jim) of Cheyenne, John Rundquist of Helena, Montana, and Janet Rundquist Quinn (Tom) of Evergreen, Colorado; 6 Grandchildren, Aaron Keen (Michelle), John Keen (Carrie), Eric Rundquist, Sunny Rundquist (Isaac), Patrick Quinn, Emmy Quinn; and 6 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ella, Addison, Gabrielle, Cody and Ava. A memorial service will be held on June 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne.
