Dr. Arthur S. Gorny, 88, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Gorny was born March 16, 1923, in Spalding, Nebraska, a son of the late Sigmond and Mary (Krick) Gorny. Arthur began his working career at an early age by joining the Civilian Conservation Corps in Bayard, NE, during the Great Depression at the age of 17. He enlisted in the United States Navy on February 13, 1943, and served during World War II until he was injured due to his ship being torpedoed. He was hospitalized at Treasure Island Hospital and was honorably discharged from the Navy on June 9, 1945. He met his future wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Schroeder, while attending Creighton University School of Dentistry and they married on September 2, 1948. They moved to Scottsbluff, NE, where he practiced general dentistry. He later attended Washington University at St. Louis where he received his Master's of Science Degree in Orthodontics and moved to Cheyenne in 1959 where he established a private practice for 20 years, retiring in 1979. His many interests included enjoying his time at home with his family and serving as a "handyman" who loved to "tinker" and problem solve. Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizableth "Liz" Gorny of Cheyenne; two sons, Dave Gorny of Cheyenne, and Dan Gorny and wife, Adell, of Cheyenne; his daughter, Beverly Gorny of Cheyenne; a sister, Ann Sava of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Frank Gorny, James, Gorny, Walter Gorny and Lewis Gorny; four sister, Alice Gilroy, Christine Anderson, Mary Strehle and Henrietta Bone. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Kevin Koch as celebrant. Interment will follow at Olivet Cemetery.
