Dr. Harold Falzone

September 14, 1927 — December 11, 2016

Dr. Harold H. Falzone, 89, died Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. Harold was born in Chicago, IL on September 14, 1927, and later migrated from the University of Illinois to the University of Wyoming where he received his doctoral degree in education in 1974. His teaching career began at Alta Vista school in grades 5 and 6 which probably were his favorite years-working with blossoming children and coaching football and basketball. He often had to race to keep a step ahead of the young men he was coaching. In 1965, he was assigned the principalship at Alta Vista and Fincher schools and later was principal at Baggs Elementary and finally Dildine Elementary school where he was principal for over 20 years, retiring in 1987. In 1952, Dr. Falzone met his first wife, Margaret Leazenby-Donovan, a single mother of five children. He adopted all five kids. His children are Starrlee (Lynn) Leavitt, Colleen (Jim) Hanson, Jim (Jeannie) Falzone, and twins, Kathie (Lester) Peters (deceased) and Michael Falzone (deceased). During their time together, Harold and Margaret traveled around the world visiting Peru, Colombia, Hawaii, South Africa, China, Japan, and touring Europe in an old Mercedes that cost twenty five dollars. Margaret passed away in 1987. His grandchildren are Rebecca (Bob) Ivatt, Wendy Wells, Corey (April) Falzone, Michael (Crystal) Falzone, Micheal (Les) Silvey, Glen Williams, and Chad (Carlee) Brannaman. He has 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. In 1990, Harold married Eleanor Harnish, a Cheyenne native who had recently returned from England. Together they traveled to various places such as China, Alaska, India, and Egypt. Eleanor passed away in 2007. He is survived by Eleanor's grown children living in Cheyenne, Kathi (Lyle) Gadbury, David (Stephanie) Harnish and Jay Harnish; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren with three more on the way. In 2009, Harold's third wife was Marlene Politzer of Broomfield, CO. They went on a river cruise in Russia, a Norwegian Fjords cruise, and a month-long expedition to Antarctica. Marlene passed away shortly afterwards in 2011. She had three daughters, Laurie, Cathlyn, and Lisa; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his three lovely wives and twin children, Harold was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Margaret Falzone, and his younger sister, Jeannette Tomassone. During his lifetime, Harold was an accomplished student, explorer, geologist, musician, artist, historian, hunter, paleontologist, photographer, astronomer, world traveler, Doctor of Education, and a wonderful father and grandfather who will be missed and loved always. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
