Duane Paul Wilson

November 29, 1951 — August 6, 2024

Cheyenne, WY

Duane Paul Wilson, a beloved and respected individual, passed away on August 6, 2024, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, WY. He was born on November 29, 1951, in McCloud, CA to the late Elmer and Gertrude Wilson.

Duane led a fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Graduating from Big Valley H.S. in Bieber, CA, in 1970, Duane went on to serve honorably in the Army National Guard until 1972 when a logging accident led to his discharge.

Known for his dedication and hard work, Duane spent close to 30 years as a talented equipment operator and truck driver in the California logging and lumber industry. His expertise eventually led him to his true passion as a ranch foreman in rural northern Nevada, where he spent the final years of his career immersed in the cowboy life he so dearly cherished.

Duane's warm personality and generosity endeared him to many. He was a true friend to all, always willing to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return. He enjoyed spending time with and keeping pace with his beloved partner, Dawn. His love for rodeos, the SF 49ers and Giants was evident to anyone who knew him, as was his signature Copenhagen ring that adorned every shirt he owned.

In his earlier years, Duane enjoyed creating memories while hunting, fishing, and supporting his three boys in their endeavors in Lassen County, CA. Later in life, he embraced the ranching lifestyle of the Great Basin, never losing his passion for socializing, hosting visitors with bottomless cocktails, and spending hours riding around finding new country and discovering his next hunting 'honey hole'.

Duane is survived by his partner, Dawn Davis, his sons Ryan, Gordon (with wife Kari), and Derek Wilson, his sister Sherry Wissmath, brothers Darwin and Dwight Wilson and his four grandchildren Tanner, Trevor, Maliah and Jake Wilson.

Duane's unexpected passing due to complications following a routine heart procedure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his hardworking nature, unwavering kindness, and genuine camaraderie with all whom he encountered.

May his memory live on in the stories shared by those whose lives he touched, as Duane's legacy continues to resonate with all who knew him.

"It is God who arms me with strength. And makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places." -Psalm 18:32-33
