Edward Atchison

April 22, 1948 — May 2, 2016

Edward McAngus Atchison, 68, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away at his home outside of Cheyenne on Monday, May 2, 2016, with his faithful canine companion, Alex, by his side. Ed was born April 22, 1948, in Glen Cove, New York. Ed was an Army officer during the Vietnam conflict. After leaving the military, he began his long career as a counselor, first for the State of Wyoming Job Service Center and then with the Veterans Administration. He was a counselor with the first VA Vietnam Veterans Outreach Center in Cheyenne and later became the Director of the Cheyenne and Ft. Collins Outreach Centers. Ed then moved to Las Vegas to provide counseling for veterans at the largest homeless center in the country which was a joint effort between the Veterans Administration, City of Las Vegas, county and State of Nevada. Ed retired and returned to the state he loved where he continued to champion causes like the ARC, Problem Gamblers, and others too numerous to mention. He could always be found avidly speaking out for and assisting those persons in our society that had no voice of their own. Ed is preceded in death by his mother, father and stepfather. He is survived by his sisters, Marcia Vanlandingham of Cheyenne and Sue Durham of Edgewater, Florida, as well as a niece, nephew and a great niece and nephews. A memory service to celebrate Ed's life will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home, family has requested casual dress. A reception will follow in the Schrader Reception Center. Memorial contributions can be made to the ARC of Laramie County or a charity of your choice.
