Eliezer Bird

July 15, 1945 — December 5, 2011

Liz Bird passed away surrounded by her family on December 5, 2011. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico on July 15, 1945, Liz spent her childhood with extended family in Tijuana, Mexico before moving to Carlsbad, California. The oldest of five, she graduated from Carlsbad High with honors before attending college, teaching in Peru and pursuing a career in accounting. Liz met her husband while working at the donut shop in Carlsbad. She and Bill wed on March 24, 1970 in Broomfield, Colorado and settled in Longmont, Colorado. Liz helped her husband build a successful swimming pool business while raising three children. An active and supportive mother, Liz spent years being home room mom, cheering at various sporting events, and shuttling her kids to various lessons - always with a smile on her face. Liz was a volunteer with the Old West Museum and the Historic Governor's Mansion. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and shopping. Liz excelled at cake decorating, sewing and crafting of all kinds. She was most proud of her naturalization as a U.S. citizen, her husband, children and grandchildren. Liz never lost her connection with her faith and her zest for life - her open heart and generosity were well known to her family and friends. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Soledad Sahagun, sister Jovita Torres, and brother Michael Sahagun. Liz is survived by her husband, Bill Bird, her children, Michele Bird of Laramie, Christina Bird (Matt Groth) of Johnstown, Colorado, Billy Bird of Denver, Colorado, two grandchildren, Benjamin and Anna, and multiple siblings. Services will be held 11 a.m., December 17th at Schrader's Funeral Home with a reception following at the Old West Museum. Donations may be made to the Old West Museum or charity of choice.
