Evelyn Littrell

November 7, 1926 — April 30, 2012

Evelyn Marie Littrell, 85, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away on April 30, 2012 in her home. She was born on November 7, 1926 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As a small child, she became a professional player of the games Patches n' Peach and Kick-the-Can. After graduating from Cheyenne Senior High in 1944, Evelyn began working as a stenographer at FE Warren Air Force Base and then continued her career at the Union Pacific Railroad through retirement. During her time on base, Evelyn was introduced to the jitterbug and the music of the Andrews Sisters. She was a lifetime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and volunteered at the Clothes Hangar. Evelyn was an avid attendee of Cheyenne Frontier Days including tickets to every night show, visits to the Indian Village, free pancake breakfasts and the acquisition of the finest turquoise jewelry. Evelyn had a true love and passion for animals. Her dachshunds, Tasha and Brandy, were devoted companions. Each month without fail, she contributed to numerous wildlife organizations and was a defender of the wolves. Outside her back window, she looked forward to daily visits from blue jays, doves, blackbirds and sparrows. The Denver Broncos were her favorite team. Some of her other hobbies included knitting, reading and gathering Betty Boop collectibles. Evelyn and her brother were garage sale addicts and were known for their expert bargaining skills. Evelyn left us during her favorite time of year. She looked for the first robin to sing, the first daffodil to show its golden face and was always anxious to get out into her gardens. Evelyn was a devoted mother and grandmother. Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frances Mary Powell Haley and William Evans Haley; her aunt and uncle, Clara E. Powell and John E. Powell ;and her stepsister and stepbrother, Wilhemenia Woerner and L.L. Bud Haley, all of Cheyenne. She is survived by her daughter and husband, Jacie and Frank Gentry; her granddaughter and grandson, Andra and Mark Gentry, all of Casper. Of Cheyenne, her caring brother, William Powell Haley, who stood by her side through thick and thin; her sister, Frances Jane Bowman and niece and nephew, Joy and John Bowman of Denver; and her niece, Mitzi Kaiser of Lander. Visitation will be private. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Father Rick Veit officiating.
