Evelyn Robinson

Died: November 13, 2010 Services: Private interment services will be held at a later date. Evelyn C. Robinson (nee Carrowon), died peacefully in her sleep on November 13, 2010 at the age of 88 in Cheyenne, WY. Her husband of 55 years, Hugh J. Robinson, preceded her in death. She was the devoted mother of Hugh T. Robinson (Diane) of The Villages, FL, Steven P. Robinson (Marie Barnhurst) of Jenkintown, PA, Virginia C. Jorden (Victor) of Cheyenne, WY and Colleen A. Kletzman (Bob MacFarland) of Philadelphia, PA. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia. She graduated from Kensington High School in 1939 and was a long distance telephone operator at the Bell Telephone Company for 10 years. She was a stay-at-home mom and channeled her energies into many other areas. Evelyn was a devoted Cub Scout Den Mother for 20 years at the Hope Lutheran Church. Speaking was her passion and she channeled that love by being an active member of the Arsenal Toastmasters, holding the position of President for many years. She also exercised her speaking skills by being a Weight Watcher lecturer for many years. She was an avid bowler and quilter. She was a member of the Senior’s Club at Our Lady of Ransome and a member of St. Timothy’s Church. She had an unsurpassed spirit for life and her travels took her all over the globe. She was known to say, “There were a lot of things I didn’t do, but it doesn’t disturb me because of all the things I did.” Evelyn’s success in life is measured by the lives of all the people who called her mother, sister, grandmom (Granny), aunt, and friend. She always looked for the good in everyone and never said a harsh word to anyone. She loved children and was beloved by her own grandchildren as well as the children of friends and family. Evelyn was an avid reader and never missed a day reading the Philadelphia Inquirer. She even had it delivered to Cheyenne, WY while staying with her daughter and son-in-law. Most recently, she combined her love of reading and children by sponsoring a visit by children’s author, Ken Thomasma for students at Buffalo Ridge Elementary School in Cheyenne. She is survived by her four children; seven grandchildren, Scott (Lindsay), Pete, Chris, Peirce, Rachel (Joe), Lynn, and Lydia; a brother, Thomas Carrowon (Sarah) of Warrensville, NC; sister, Bernice Smith of Philadelphia, PA and many nieces and nephews.
