Ferne Payne

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Schrader Chapel with visitation prior to the service. Cremation will follow at Schrader’s Sunset Park Crematory. Ferne A. Payne of Cheyenne died August 1, 2010 in Cheyenne. She was born January 8, 1917 in Vermillion, SD to Joshua D. and Zora A. Hofer. She married Bernard (BW) Payne on April 17, 1938 in New Underwood, SD. She was an accountant for the State of Wyoming. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Wyoming Historical Society, Wyoming State Retired Employees Association, First Congregational Church Circle Group and various bridge clubs. She was a volunteer tutor with One to One Tutoring. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Payne (Jeffrey) Crabtree of Indianapolis, IN and Cheryl Haskell of Centennial, CO; her sister Phyllis Atwater of Rapid City, SD; 5 grandchildren, Todd Herceg, Selena Herceg, Brian Haskell, Brad Haskell and Monica Haskell; 3 great grandchildren, Nicole Herceg, Gage Herceg and Joshua Herceg, 7 step great grandchildren, Garrett Wynn, Stevie Haskell, Jordan Haskell, Charles Klinkefus, Christian Klinkefus, Nikolas Pershing and Robby Pershing; 3 step great-great grandchildren, Mahleigha Haskell, Kelsei Thetford, Kierra Thetford. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua D. and Zora A. Hofer; husband, Bernard Payne; son, Blake Payne; sisters, Geraldine Hofer, Katherina Johnson, and Inez Shaver.
