Florence Edwina Shelton, 98, of Wheatland, Wyoming, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011, at Mountain Towers Healthcare in Cheyenne. Mrs. Shelton was born the fifth child of eight children on the family homestead in Slater, Wyoming, on June 3, 1913, to the late Bruce and Nanah (Howell) Miller. Following the sale of the family homestead, she and her family moved to Indiana and then later moved to Wheatland where she graduated from Wheatland High School in 1930. Florence had received a sewing machine for a gift while in high school and she made many items of clothing for herself and her nieces and nephews. On June 30, 1949, she married Ray Hegglund, and she also worked for the Ben Franklin store in Wheatland until her first retirement. Shortly after leaving Ben Franklin, she continued her working career at Coast to Coast. At the age of 70, she again retired and married her second husband, Jack Shelton in July 1983. Her many interests included sewing, crocheting afghans, embroidery, and traveling throughout the United States, Europe and Canada. She was loved as a wonderful step-mother, step-grandmother and aunt, and she will be missed by all who knew and cared for her. Florence is survived by her step-sons, Joe Shelton and wife, Jane, and Carl Buchanan and wife, Miyako; a step-daughter, Vickie Rients and husband, Rod; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ray Hegglund; her second husband, Jack Shelton in 2007; her brothers, Jack Miller and Clarence Miller; her sisters, Ruth Wooley, Ruby Wolfe, Tessie Griffin, Bessie Bateman and Lila Kangas; two step-sons, Charles Hegglund and Jim Shelton; and a step-daughter, Alice Lamb. A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Wheatland with inurnment to follow in the Wheatland Cemetery.
