Fred Hankel, Jr., 83, of Cheyenne passed away at his home in Cheyenne on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Mr. Hankel was born on February 27, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Fred and Effie (Weinmaster) Hankel, Sr. On December 29, 1947, Fred married Betty Ann Schwindt in Mitchell, NE. Fred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his discharge from the Army, Fred pursued the occupation of truck driver, driving for several various trucking companies during his career. Fred was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Cheyenne and was also a member of American Legion Post #6 in Cheyenne. Fred is survived by one son Larry Hankel of Cheyenne, four daughters, Peggie Harbaugh of Bradenton, FL, Jeanette Hankel of Cheyenne, Dianna Hankel of Denver and Angel Lucero of Cheyenne. Also surviving are three sisters, Bernice Schwindt of San Diego, CA, Dorothy Schwanke of Jersey Shore, PA, and Donna Smith of Cortland, NY, Nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents and one daughter Linda Hankel. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Schrader Chapel with Chaplain Delbert Hansen officiating. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #6 Honor Guard
