Gary Paul Erwin, 79, passed away peacefully after a long battle with colon cancer on March 8, 2023. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Cheyenne, WY.

Gary was born August 4, 1943, to Paul Russell and Eva B Roberts Erwin in Durango, CO.

He attended Durango schools until his senior year where he graduated from Anchorage East High School in 1962. After high school he enlisted in the Navy.

When he returned to Durango, he worked many places including: Parklawn Mortuary, Schluter Floral, Kiva and Gaslight theaters, Durango Police Department as Property Officer, meter maintenance and meter reader, and for several years as an assistant to Dan Day with plumbing and heating installations. Gary graduated from airline training school in Denver and in later years from Naturopathic Health Training school in Phoenix, AZ.

On May 20, 1972, at the Ft. Lewis College Chapel, Gary married his sweetheart, Theresa Mayer and the two enjoyed the next 50 years together.

Gary's life was filled with outdoor adventures with his family, most of which were in the mountains of Colorado and the canyonlands of Utah. He loved camping, 4-wheeling, fishing, hiking, and seeking out unique rocks. He also enjoyed many years collecting and selling antiques.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dale.

 Gary is survived by his wife, Theresa, daughters, Tracie Peterson (James), and Paula Smith (Gregg), grandchildren, Mark and Michael Peterson, and Kellie Smith, all of Cheyenne, WY, and Megan Peterson, serving in the United States Space Force.

Friends and family are invited to join in a memorial service which will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 2 pm at the family home, 8615 Jack Rabbit Road, Cheyenne, WY 82009.
