George Kaminski, 80, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Thursday morning, January 20, 2011, at the Davis Hospice Center. Mr. Kaminski was born September 15, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, where he grew up and graduated from St. Casimir High School in 1948. He served in the Marines during the Korean War and later attended the University of Colorado where he graduated with a BA in Conservation Education. He went to work for the Wyoming Game & Fish Department in 1960 where he worked for 15 years becoming the head of the Information & Education Department in 1965. He also worked for the Department of Environmental Quality, the National Wildlife Federation, as the Regional Executive for the Rocky Mountain Region, was one of the original Field Directors for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the BLM in the Rock Springs District working with the wild horse program. He was very dedicated to conservations issues and educating youth about wildlife and habitat, and he received several state and national awards during his career. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working with his registered Paint horses and his Labradors. Mr. Kaminski is survived by his wife, Fran Kaminski of Cheyenne; two sons, Paul Kaminski and wife, Roxanne, of San Clemente, CA, and Mike Kaminski and wife, Jill, of Elizabeth, CO; two daughters, Kathy Boyd of Sheridan WY, and Anne Osuna and husband, Tony, of Tempe, AZ; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Nardi of Detroit, MI; a brother, Robert Kaminski of W. Bloomfield, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Veronica Kaminski; and a younger sister, Mary Noreen Stone. Cremation will take place under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Steven Titus as celebrant. A private interment service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery.
