Gerald Gene Sitzman

August 3, 1937 — September 29, 2024

CHeyenne

Gerald Gene Sitzman passed (Welp, it’s time to go) at Davis Hospice on September 29, 2024, to be with his loving Beverly whom he was married to for sixty-three years.

Gene was born August 3, 1937, in McCook, Nebraska to John and Rachel (Wagner) Sitzman. Gene grew up in Culbertson, NE and was known as Plute. He was active in sports - track, basketball and football (quarterback and center) and lettered his sophomore, junior and senior year. Gene graduated in 1955 and was salutatorian, vice-president of his class, Most Flirtatious and Most Bashful. After graduation Gene attended Parks Radio & TV Institute in Denver, CO. He began working for IBM in 1956 and retired from IBM in April 1987 after 31 years.

Gene and Beverly met in late 1956 and were married on February 15, 1958. To their union, they were blessed with three boys - Timothy Gene, Bradley Wayne and Scott Dean. As the boys were growing up the family camped with IBMers and their families. These IBM friends were lifelong friends. Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting (with work friends that included some interesting and hilarious tales), skiing (learned at age 44) and bowling. He also played softball in church and city softball leagues. Gene and Beverly were fortunate to have many, many true friends throughout their lives. They have enriched our lives also - thank you.

Once retired Gene continued to ski and was a member of the Cheyenne Ski Club for 20 years and was a Ski Patrol Volunteer for six years at Snowy Range Ski area. Gene was on the Cheyenne Frontier Days Ticket committee for 15 years, VITA volunteer for 15 years, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and CRMC Information desk volunteer for many years. Gene was a proud and faithful member of First United Methodist Church since 1965. Gene completed three missions including Chihuahua, Mexico (1987), Window Rock, AZ (1992) and Grand Forks, ND and Minnesota (1997). He was available to perform whatever duties he might be told to do. And, as a social person, coffee duty and coffee drinking were highly important.

Gene is predeceased by his wife Beverly and his parents. He is survived by his sons Timothy (Suzanne), Bradley (Kathy) of Cheyenne and Scott (Angie) of Houston, TX. He is survived by his grandchildren - Elizabeth (Chance) Pollo, Erin (Mathew) Ammons, Justin (Paige) Sitzman, Shawn Sitzman, Mallory (Adam) Garner, Nathan (Angie) Sitzman and Jason Sitzman - and by great-grandchildren Cooper and June Sitzman.
