Gertrude Knollenberg-Peterson

Gertrude "Trudy" Knollenberg-Peterson was born in Richmond, Indiana, to Harriet McMullen Knollenberg and Walter G. Knollenberg on August 5th 1916. She has a younger sister Dorothy and younger brother W. George. The family moved to Wyoming in late 1917 and she lived in Wyoming the rest of her life. She married Earl D. Peterson during World War II, June 17, 1943. She attended school in a one room rural school and attended Junior High and High school in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from the University of Colorado. She worked as a teacher in Lander, Wyoming for three years. She attended Barnes Business School in Denver, Colorado and later accepted a job in the State Department of Education in Cheyenne, where she worked as a Secretary. Later she returned to teaching. She went to Teachers College at Columbia University, in New York, where she earned her Master Degree. She returned to Cheyenne, Wyoming and accepted a job as a teacher and counselor. After 36 years in the education profession she decided to take early retirement at age 62, in 1978 from Laramie County School District One's Carey Jr. High. She enjoyed travel with her husband until his death and with her sister or with tour groups. In 1994 she sold her house and moved to an apartment in Pointe Frontier where she had time to write a book, "The Half-Circle "V" Ranch in Wyoming" where she tells of her life growing up on a cattle ranch. As a young girl she loved riding horseback and enjoyed helping with raising Herford cattle. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of Retired Teachers, State Historical Society and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by her sister Dorothy K. Baker of Cheyenne and one brother W. George Knollenberg of Mechanicsville, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Schrader Chapel with Nadine Korhonen officiating. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
