Harold R. Morford, 92, of Cheyenne died on June 3, 2016 at Lifecare Center. He was born May 10, 1924 in Cheyenne to John W. and Nellie M. Morford. He married Leona M. Lee on February 16, 1947 in Cheyenne. He worked as a right-of-way engineer for the telephone company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by his children, Ron Morford of Phoenix, AZ, Susan Porras also of Phoenix, Bruce Morford and Rod Morford both of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren 3 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Morford; his parents and a brother, John Morford. To his family, Harold was a rock, an unshakeable foundation. Time and disease eventually withered his body and stole his memories, but somehow neither could take Harold's own foundation. Growing up during the Great Depression and losing his mother before he was eleven might have produced in him a much different man-one without his inviolable optimism and consistent kindness. Yet, these trials, and many to follow, did not prevail. He was man of faith; a faith demonstrated more often than declared. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. A few years following the end of that Second World War, and literally on his last day as a reservist, the Navy nabbed him for a tour in The Korean Conflict. Back home, his first two children were not yet of school age. He was a consummate member of arguably the best living generation. Soon they will all be gone. Their positive influence upon this country has diminished over the decades, and it may survive only through those who strive to be like them. Or it may survive not at all. Either way, we will miss them, especially Harold Raymond Morford. Those who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer Association. Visitation will be Thursday 5-7:00 p.m. at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Lakeview Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
