Harriet Smith

Harriet Elenora Holdredge Smith passed away on June 27, 2014 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was born in Thermopolis, Wyoming on June 6, 1923 and graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1941. She received a B.A. in history from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, in 1945. She married her elementary school friend, Stanford S. Smith in La Jolla, CA Christmas day, 1945, and repeated her marriage vows on Feb 7, 1947 in Thermopolis. During Stan's Navy years, Harriet raised the first two of their four children in Hawaii and Japan while he served in the Korean War. After the war, Stan and Harriet returned to Thermopolis to ranch on Copper Mountain. She was Stan's biggest campaign asset when he ran for Hot Springs County Commissioner, the Wyoming House of Representatives and State Treasurer. Harriet was a talented pianist, having served as soloist and accompanist at countless wedding services and political functions. In later years, they had many adventures while travelling the world visiting friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Stanford S. Smith, her parents Julia and Harry Holdredge, and sons Barton Smith and Sherman Smith. Her beautiful smile will be most missed by her son Franklin Smith of Rock Springs, grandson Ryan Smith of Fort Collins, daughter Monta Ramirez (Carlos) of Cheyenne, granddaughter Ali Tavelli (Chace) and great granddaughter Alina, all of Cheyenne, as well as the Ray, Gerhard and Holdredge families. She was a member of Chapter Z PEO Sisterhood and XJWC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hot Springs County Senior Citizens Center or Cheyenne Animal Shelter. Visitation will be July 2 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schrader Funeral Home, and the memory service will be July 7th at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.
