Harvey Cain

January 7, 1939 — March 28, 2017

Harvey L. Cain, 78, of Cheyenne passed away March 28, 2017 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. "Big Harv" was born January 7, 1939 in Greeley, Colorado, to Elmer and Gloria Cain. He married Virginia Duran on September 11, 1967 in Rock River, Wyoming. He retired from Reiman Construction where he was an over-the-road crane mechanic for 30 years. He also served in the United States Navy from 1958-1965. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren. They brought him lots of joy. His interests included going to junkyards and car shows with his son, Gary, hot rods and old cars whether restoring them, racing them or just riding in one. He loved them all. He also enjoyed talking with his son, Don, about building buildings and structures. He loved to hunt and fish with his boys, and he enjoyed gambling with his daughter, Kirstie. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent with the love of his life, Virginia. They were married for 49 years. His family's favorite saying about "Big Harv" was when mom would say "Harvey, Harvey, Harvey..." and he would reply, "Damn it Virginia what do you want now?" They were inseparable. When Virginia was in the hospital, he would stay with her or sleep on the couch because he couldn't sleep unless she was next to him. "Big Harv" was our "HERO" and he will be greatly missed. He raised his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to know that it is always better to give than to receive. He raised his family to work hard because nothing in this life is free. He would give you his last dollar if you needed it. He would talk to anyone and everyone. If he didn't joke with you then you knew he didn't like you. He liked to harass his nieces all the time. He was a jokester and had lots of sayings we will never forget. His favorite quote is from The Duke himself, John Wayne, "Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway." He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Don Cain of Las Vegas, NV, Gary Cain of Colorado, and Kirstie Cain of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Bret (Danielle)Cain, Jordan Cain, and Amber Cain; great-grandchildren, Alexandrea Cain, McKenna Cain, Blake Cain, Brooklyn Wade and Grayson Seivewright; siblings, Doris Clark of Cheyenne, Peggy Lemmons of Cheyenne, Gloria "Punky" Oglesby of Cheyenne, Gloria "Prency" Zepeda of Greeley, David Cain of Cheyenne, and Elmer "Jitter"(Paula) Cain of Wheatland; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Gloria Cain; nephew, Billy Frausto; and siblings, Jim Cain, Bill Cain, Agnes Gutierrez and Nancy "Butchie" Frausto. A memory service will be celebrated on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
