Helen Levengood

August 14, 1917 — October 24, 2012

Helen L. (Arnold) Levengood, 95, passed away in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on October 24, 2012. She was born August 14, 1917, on the family farm near Smith Center, Kansas, the fourth of six children. She attended a one-room schoolhouse and she attended high school in Smith Center during the depression when school was often closed for dust days. Helen attended Fort Hays State College and taught school for six years. She married her high school sweetheart -- the one and only, Kenneth Levengood, on May 25, 1941. They remained married until Ken's passing in 1977. They resided in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Sterling, Colorado, and Grand Junction, Colorado. Helen was a dedicated volunteer and devout Baptist. She was a member of P.E.O. and the American Red Cross. She also gave much of her time to the VA Medical Center and her church. She was an avid doll collector, a sports fan, a brilliant player of games, a prolific letter writer, and she loved to read. Helen also was a skilled seamstress, a witty conversationalist, and above all, a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Kenneth B. Levengood; and all of her siblings. She is survived by all four of her children, Bill Levengood and his wife, Leslie, of Kansas City, Missouri, Leah Allegretti and her husband, Dan, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Laurel Schallich and husband, Tim, of Portland, Oregon, and Brian Levengood and his wife, Donna, of Cheyenne. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in Helen's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 720 Grand Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
