Helen M. Swanzy, 89, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died May 27, 2015. She was born in Russell Gulch, Colorado, on June 18, 1925, to Adeline and Peter Zancanella. Helen was raised in Rock Springs and Superior, Wyoming. She married Harold Swanzy in Colorado Springs on March 21, 1945, and moved to Cheyenne in 1947 where she has lived ever since. She attended the University of Wyoming and then worked for the Wyoming State Department of Education for 38 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Cathedral Guild and did volunteer work. Helen was on the Board of Directors of Meridian Trust Credit Union for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ernest Zancanella. She is survived by her husband, Harold; a son, Jack Swanzy and daughter-in-law, Patricia Swanzy, of Lakewood, Colorado; granddaughter Meghan Swanzy-Foster (Colt) of Eagle River, Alaska; grandson, Sean Swanzy (Katie) of Golden, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Sloane, Malin and Burke Swanzy, and Finley and Declan Foster; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father August Koeune as celebrant. An interment service will follow at Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School, 2200 O'Neil Avenue, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001.
