Inez Murphy

August 11, 1922 — January 8, 2013

Inez Evans Murphy, 90, passed away at Davis Hospice Center, Cheyenne, Wyoming on January 8, 2013. She was born Inez Rose Dallezotte on August 11, 1922 in Oakley, Wyoming to Frank and Maria (Casera) Dallezotte, Italian immigrants. Her father was a coal miner. She graduated from Kemmerer, Wyoming High School in 1940. She married Joseph James Evans on September 28, 1946 in Kemmerer. They moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1956, and settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1959. Mr. Evans preceded her in death in 1969. She married Walter L. "Spud" Murphy on September 5, 1976, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They lived in Sheridan, Wyoming until 1990, when they returned to Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Onorina (George) Roletto, brother Frank (Florence) Dallezotte, stepson, Mike (Joan) Murphy, one nephew and two great grandsons. She is survived by her husband; her sister, Ellen (Frank) Pinto, her children Anthony (Buffe) Evans, Joseph (Beth) Evans, David (Becky) Evans, and Ann Marie (Lee) Erickson, two stepchildren, Mark (Tempe) Murphy and Mary (Jim) Whalen, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, five great step-grandchildren, one great great step-grandchild and twelve nieces and nephews. Inez was proud of her Italian and Wyoming heritage, the sacrifices made by her parents in immigrating to America, and being the daughter of a coal miner. She spoke fluent Italian, traveled to Italy to visit her relatives, and kept in contact with them. Inez was a hard working homemaker and a dedicated church and school volunteer. After her first husband's death in 1969, she worked for the State Engineer's Office and the Federal Highway Administration. Her favorite job was manager of her husband's bookstore, Sheridan Stationary, while in Sheridan. She was an active member of Cheyenne Women's Civic League, Bishop's Guild, Cathedral Guild, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Circle. Her greatest gift was her belief that all her children and grandchildren were perfect. A Vigil for the Deceased will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral.
