Irene D. Forwood, 92, mother, wife, teacher; passed away March 26, at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was born October 28, 1919 in Laramie, Wyoming to Minnie and John Doherty. She spent her early life at McFadden and Saratoga, Wyoming on a cattle ranch. She attended college at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, the University of Wyoming, and later obtained her masters degree in education at Arizona State University in Tempe. She married Don Forwood in 1942 and followed him through various postings as a flying instructor for the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, the couple moved to Cheyenne where they operated the Indian Village Motor Lodge on West Lincoln Way, and later ran the International Harvester business in Cheyenne. The couple raised three children in Cheyenne, and in 1959 she returned to her first love of teaching. The family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona for a period of time, and then returned to Cheyenne where she again taught school at Davis Elementary until she retired in 1982. She also played an active role in helping run her daughter's Budget Tapes and Records store. She was an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and a volunteer. She also was a member of the Wyoming Retired Teachers and was an original member of the Cowgirls of the West. She loved to cook and to sew, and to play practical jokes on friends and family. She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit and her incredible work ethic. She is survived by her three children: Don W. Forwood of Glendale, Arizona, Jon R. Forwood (MaryBeth) of Athens, Georgia, and Ann Forwood (Keith) of Tucson, Arizona, her grandchildren; Christopher R. Forwood (Jenn) of Alisa Viejo, CA, TJ Forwood (Abbi) of Cheyenne, DeDe Forwood of Glendale, Arizona , and Brian Forwood of Salt Lake City; and one great grandchild Jack Ryan Forwood. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Youmans, of Denver, Colo, and also Victoria W. Forwood. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Forwood, and her brothers Mark and Paul Doherty . The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Robin Anderson for her loving care and friendship to Irene in her last years. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Friday March 30th at the 1st Presbyterian Church at 220 W. 22nd at 10:00. Services are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home and online condolences can be made at www.schraderfuneral.com. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to donate to a charity of your choice, or if desired to the 1st Presbyterian Church Stained Glass Fund, or to the Davis Hospice Center of Cheyenne.
